Getting the right size is the single most important step when buying Ugg boots — and it's also the step most people get wrong.
Unlike regular shoes, Ugg boots are made from natural sheepskin that molds and stretches with wear. That means your usual shoe size isn't always the right starting point. Buy too large and they'll never feel snug. Buy too small and you'll be uncomfortable before the sheepskin has a chance to break in.
This guide covers everything you need to know: how to measure your foot correctly, how to read our size charts, and how to handle common fit situations like wide feet, half sizes, and kids' sizing.
Are Ugg Boots True to Size?
This is the most common question we get — and the honest answer is: mostly yes, but with an important catch.
Our Ugg boots are designed to be worn barefoot against the sheepskin, and they will stretch slightly with wear as the wool fibers compress and mold to the shape of your foot. This means:
- If you are a standard size, order your usual size
- If you are between sizes, size down — the boots will stretch to accommodate your foot over time
- If you plan to wear thick socks, size up by half a size
The key thing to avoid is ordering too large. A boot that starts out roomy will only get roomier as the sheepskin breaks in, and you will never achieve that signature snug, personalized fit.
How to Measure Your Foot
Before checking any size chart, measure your foot. Shoe sizes vary between brands, and what fits in one style won't always translate to another.
What you need: a ruler or tape measure, a piece of paper, and a pen.
- Place the piece of paper on a hard floor against a wall
- Stand on the paper with your heel touching the wall
- Mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper
- Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres
- Repeat for your other foot and use the larger measurement
Most people have one foot slightly larger than the other — always size for the bigger foot.
Adult Size Chart
Use your foot measurement in centimetres to find your size across Australian, US, UK and European sizing.
Please note: International size conversions (US, EUR, UK) are provided as a general guide only. Because there is no single global standard for footwear sizing, these conversions can only ever be approximate. The most accurate way to ensure the correct fit is to measure your bare foot length in centimetres or inches and match it directly to the Foot (cm) or Foot (inch) column in the chart below — not the size number from another brand or country.
| Foot cm | Foot inch | Our Size | AUS/US Mens | AUS/US Ladies | UK Ladies | EUR Ladies | EUR Mens |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21.8 | 8.6 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 2.5 | 35 | 37 |
| 22.6 | 8.9 | 5 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 36 | 38 |
| 23.5 | 9.3 | 6 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 37 | 39 |
| 24.3 | 9.6 | 7 | 6 | 7 | 5 | 38 | 40 |
| 25.1 | 9.9 | 8 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 39 | 41 |
| 26.0 | 10.3 | 9 | 8 | 9 | 6.5 | 40 | 42 |
| 26.8 | 10.6 | 10 | 9 | 10 | 7.5 | 41 | 43 |
| 27.7 | 10.9 | 11 | 10 | 11 | 8 | 42 | 44 |
| 28.5 | 11.2 | 12 | 11 | 12 | 9 | 43 | 45 |
| 29.3 | 11.5 | 13 | 12 | 13 | 10 | 44 | 46 |
| 30.1 | 11.8 | 14 | 13 | 14 | 11 | 45 | 47 |
Example: If your foot measures 25.1 cm (9.9 inches), select Our Size 8 — which is AUS/US Men's 7 or AUS/US Women's 8.
Kids Size Chart
For children's sizing, measure the foot the same way — heel to longest toe in centimetres — then match to the chart below.
| Foot cm | Foot inch | Our Size | AUS/US Kids | UK Kids | EUR Kids |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14.4 | 5.7 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 23 |
| 15.2 | 6 | 8 | 8 | 7 | 24/25 |
| 15.9 | 6.2 | 9 | 9 | 8 | 25/26 |
| 16.6 | 6.5 | 10 | 10 | 9 | 27 |
| 17.3 | 6.8 | 11 | 11 | 10 | 28 |
| 18 | 7 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 30 |
| 18.7 | 7.4 | 13 | 13 | 12 | 31 |
| 19.5 | 7.7 | 1 | 1 | 13 | 32 |
| 20.2 | 7.9 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 33 |
| 20.9 | 8.2 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 34 |
Children's feet grow quickly — if your child is between sizes, size up rather than down so they have room to grow.
Unisex Sizing — What This Means for You
All our Ugg boots are unisex and designed with a universal fit for both men and women. The size printed on the swing tag is the Australian Women's size, but the chart above gives you the correct conversion for men's sizing.
As a rule of thumb: men's sizing runs approximately 1 size below women's. So if you are a men's AUS size 8, you are ordering Our Size 9 (which is a women's AUS size 9).
Always use your foot measurement and the chart above rather than converting from another brand. International sizing standards vary between countries and manufacturers, so a size conversion from another brand or country can only ever be a rough guide. Your bare foot measurement in centimetres or inches is the only reliable starting point.
Why Ugg Boots Should Feel Tight at First
Many first-time buyers worry that their new Ugg boots feel too snug when they first try them on.
In most cases, this is exactly how they should feel.
Unlike synthetic footwear, genuine sheepskin naturally compresses and molds to the shape of your foot with wear. The dense wool lining will flatten slightly over time, creating a personalised fit unique to your foot.
A boot that feels comfortably snug when new will often become the perfect fit after a short break-in period.
A boot that feels loose from day one, however, will usually become too roomy once the sheepskin has compressed.
This is why we generally recommend choosing a snug fit rather than a loose fit when purchasing genuine Australian-made Ugg boots.
Common Fit Questions
I'm between sizes — should I size up or down?
Size down. Our boots are only available in full sizes, and because sheepskin naturally stretches and molds with wear, a snug starting fit will become a perfect custom fit. A boot that starts roomy will only get looser.
I have wide feet — what should I do?
Ugg boots are naturally accommodating for wider foot widths thanks to the flexible nature of sheepskin. If you have particularly wide feet, going up one size will give you the extra room you need without compromising the fit too much.
Should I wear socks with my Ugg boots?
Our boots are designed to be worn barefoot so you can fully experience the warmth and natural moisture-wicking properties of the sheepskin against your skin. You can wear socks if you prefer, but be aware it will affect the fit slightly. If you plan to regularly wear thick socks, size up.
Do Ugg boots stretch over time?
Yes. The flexible sheepskin will stretch slightly with wear. This is why the initial snug fit is so important — it ensures that once the boots have broken in and molded to your foot, they feel like they were made specifically for you.
How should Ugg boots feel when I first try them on?
They should feel snug but not painful. You should be able to wiggle your toes, but the boot shouldn't feel loose around the heel or ankle. Any tightness at first is normal and will ease as the wool fibers compress to match the shape of your foot.
Outdoor Ugg Boots: A Different Fit
Our Offroader outdoor Ugg boots fit differently from our classic styles and this is by design.
The Offroaders are built for outdoor conditions and crafted with a roomier fit to comfortably accommodate socks for extended outdoor use. If you are used to our classic Ugg boots, don't assume the same size will apply — the construction and fit are intentionally different.
For Offroaders, we recommend measuring your foot and using the size chart above as your starting point, then sizing up if you plan to wear heavy socks.
Still Not Sure?
Sizing can be tricky, especially if you haven't worn our boots before or are buying as a gift. If you're unsure, contact our customer service team — we're happy to help you find the right size before you order.
All our boots are made in Melbourne from genuine Australian Merino sheepskin, and we want every pair to fit perfectly from the moment you put them on.
